Amazon.com Review Celestron’s Nexstar 8 SE telescope combines excellent optics and computerized “GoTo” tracking in a package that’s light, portable and affordable. The legendary performance of Celestron’s orange tube C8 telescope has been updated with high performance Starbright XLT coatings, and the single arm Nexstar mount now includes Celestron’s easy to use “SkyAlign” technology. The Nexstar 8 SE upholds Celestron’s reputation for quality optics. When I use an 11mm Plossl eyepiece (almost 200x magnification) for example, I can easily see the Cassini Division in Saturn’s rings. When I look at Jupiter, the pale orange color of Jupiter’s famous Great Red Spot is visible, and I’ve even been able to identify the polar caps and spot dust storms on the planet Mars. A 20mm Plossl eyepiece (about 100x magnification) is a good choice for viewing galaxies and star clusters.

The Orion-designed Star-Blast 6 Astro Telescope takes the same compact, wide-field, user-friendly concept and expands on it, literally. The Star-Blast 6 boasts fully 73% more light-gathering area than its smaller counterpart. Yet the scope is still highly portable, weighing only 23.5 lbs., and comes with the base fully assembled in the box! The Star-Blast 6’s 150mm (5.9″) f/5.0 parabolic mirror provides ample aperture to reveal the planets and deep-sky gems in wonderful detail. Its wide field of view makes finding and tracking objects easier than with longer focal-length telescopes, which makes it a superb beginner telescope — for all ages. Orion’s surprising little Space probe 3 has been picked by independent reviewers as one of the best telescopes in its price class. The package includes two very good Explorer II eyepieces (25mm and 10mm), an equatorial mount with adjustable tripod, a good red-dot finder, a student edition of “The Sky” planetarium program, and a well written manual. Product Review Celestron’s Power-Seeker 70 EQ telescope combines the solid optical performance of a classic achromatic refract-or with a light weight equatorial mount. This telescope has half the light gathering power and half the weight of Celestron’s classic C102 refract-or telescope, for much less than half the cost.Overall the Power-Seeker 70 EQ is a really nice addition to Celestron’s value priced Power-Seeker series. Of all the Power-Seekers I like this one best because of its fine optical performance and because the accessories are solid enough to be truly usable. This is a real telescope and it’s capable of serving up delightful views to the junior astronomer or the family on a budget.$109.95.

Orion’s Observer 70 EQ combines the solid optical performance of a classic achromatic refract-or with a German style equatorial mount. The Observer 70 features very good optics and 36 percent more light gathering power than 60mm beginner scopes. The complete accessory package includes high and low power eyepieces, a 90 degree star diagonal, a red-dot finder, illustrated instructions, and Orion‘s Starry Night Special Edition astronomy software. The Observer 70 EQ features very good optical performance. Achromatic refractors have a two piece objective lens, the second lens element compensates for “chromatic aberration”, the false color or blue fringes seen in low cost telescopes. In daylight tests I see very little blue fringing with the standard equipment 10mm eyepiece (70X magnification), and none at all with the 25mm eyepiece (28X). Stars and planets show up very nicely with the Observer 70. $169.99.

Considering how many adults have told us they love our Star-Blast “mini Dob,” we weren’t surprised that some of them suggested we offer the Star-Blast optical tube on a full-size telescope mount. Sounded like a good idea to us. So here it is, the Star-Blast 4.5 EQ. It’s bound to become a favorite of both adults and adolescents alike. It combines the much-heralded Star-Blast wide-field (f/4.0) parabolic optics with a sturdy, adjustable height EQ-1 equatorial tracking mount. So if you’re an adult (or a parent) looking for an exceptional starter scope on a tracking mount, or an experienced amateur astronomer seeking a more portable alternative to your “light bucket,” then get a Star-Blast 4.5 EQ. The name says it all!$199.99.

Celestron’s value priced Power-seeker 60 telescope takes a basic “just the facts” approach to affordable entry level telescopes. The package includes an adjustable aluminum tripod with an alt-azimuth mount and stabilizer, a Kellner type K20 eyepiece, a Rams-den type SR4 eyepiece, a 3x barlow lens, and a 5 power cross-hair finder scope. The Power-seeker 60 comes disassembled in a compact box, but it won’t take long to put everything together. Go ahead and try it out in the daytime, that’s the best time to align the finder scope while looking at a distant tree or telephone pole. My first view of Saturn’s rings and star cluster M13 in Hercules came with a 60mm telescope, and I enjoy celestial viewing with the Power-seeker 60 to this day. !$46.58.
